Overview
Deep Resonance is the stuff of sound design legends. Curated from Sound Mountain - the recording archive of iconic sound artists Ann Kroeber and Alan Splet (Dune 1984, Blue Velvet) - this small but mighty exclusive collection of metallic and crystalline resonances, hits, and scrapes has been used to create some of the most experimental sound design in cinema history. Combining unique sound sources and techniques with the unmistakable sound of analog tape pushed to its limits, these sounds are guaranteed to inspire your sound design and music.
Inside, you’ll find the fruits of Kroeber and Splet’s sonic experimentation; including the shimmering tones of a crystal singing bowl, ghostly metallic swells coaxed out of a 55-gallon drum, bowed scrapes and hits from assorted metal objects, soft gong-like tones and overmodulated cymbal hits, musical wind chimes, and more strange and beautiful sounds. Some are raw and visceral, while others feature creative processing that lends them an otherworldly sound.
Originally recorded to magnetic tape at speeds ranging from the standard 15 inches per second (IPS) to just 3¾ IPS, these sounds are dripping with analog character. Many of the sounds were captured with a FRAP (Flat Response Audio Pickup) microphone custom-made to Kroeber’s specifications, providing the tactile sound and near-perfect isolation of a traditional contact microphone with enhanced durability to stand up to Kroeber and Splet’s boundary-pushing recording techniques.
